It takes a while for him to figure out if and when to wear it. He spends a lot of time just carrying it around, like a Charm or a Pet. After a few days, he apparently settles on some Rhythm or Pattern for when it should go on, but the reasoning is indecipherable to you. At seemingly random times, in the middle of Comversations even, he casually lifts it into place, then carries on as if it were no more of a distraction than blinking. Everyone gets used to it.
